Bramley Studio Instagram Takeover
Artist Support due to COVID-19
In response to the current Covid-19 pandemic The Mead Family Foundation and Bramley Studio have been working on ways to assist artists in need of extra support at this time.
In March artist Matthew Burrow initiated the @artistsupportpledge encouraging artists to support each other by selling their work on Instagram, and once they reach £1000 of sales, they pledge to buy an artwork from a fellow artist taking part. Anyone can purchase an artwork, and on behalf of Bramley Studio all studio team members each purchased a work in support of the project and artists.
Secondly, as a direct and more long-term plan to support artists in this challenging climate, Bramley Studio has begun a new ‘Instagram Takeover’ program @BramleyStudio. Selected artists will be invited and supported to ‘takeover’ the new Instagram account for a week, sharing their artistic practice and processes. In the same spirit as the UAL Mead Awards, the intention is to support and engage with artists and the development of their practice.
Bramley Studio is a creative hub established and led by Scott Mead with an emphasis on photography, creative engagement, and connection with the local community and beyond.

Liane Lang (5th – 9th Janurary 2021)
Liane Lang is a London based visual artist working with photography, sculpture and intervention, she has had work held in collections of MoMA, V&A, Royal Academy and the Saatchi Gallery. Liane has special interest in statues and historic monuments.

Linett Kamala (1st – 5th December 2020)
Artist, educator and carnivalist, Linett Kamala who is based in the Notting Hill area curated a mural opposite Bramley Studio to honour the legacy of activist Paulette Wilson as part of Kensington + Chelsea Art Week. Linet refers to her work as ‘freestyle calligraffiti’ where she draws inspiration fro her personal educational jounrey as well as life stories of others. She is a founding member of The Future Leaders Headship programme and has sixteen years of senior leadership in schools.

All Change Photographic (17th – 21st November 2020)
The creator behind collaborative project, All Change Photographic, is Owen Harvey. It has been running since 2018 with 13 artist collaborators, each documenting and photographing a final stop of a London Underground line to however they choose.

Liz Orton (3rd November – 7th November 2020)
Liz Orton is a visual artist and photography lecturer at Kings Collage London. Her work engages widely with archives, both real and imagined, to explore the tensions between personal and scientific forms of knowledge. Liz was awarded the UAL Mead Fellowship in 2013.

Teresa Eng (15th – 19th September 2020)
During her takeover it was announced that Canadian photographer, Teresa Eng, was awarded the 2020 Martin Parr Foundation Bursary. She is currently living and working in South London documenting the gentrification of the area. Teresa began her project “Elephant” in 2013 and has recorded the demolition, development and subsequent gentrification in what is one of Europe’s largest regeneration projects.

Betty Laura Zapata (18th – 22nd August 2020)
Betty Laura Zapata is a photojounralist from Venezuela who is currently based in London. She focuses her projects to document social issues, political conflicts, health, immigration and gender violence.
Her work has been published in The New York Times Lens, Channel 4, Vanity Fair, BBC, among others. During her takeover she documented self-isolation in her own neighbourhood, as well as following a group of female Latin American musicians in London.

Olly Fathers (14th – 18th July 2020)
South London based artist Olly Fathers works with a vast variety of mediums including paint, wood, paper and digital. He constructs and assembles works that reference architecture and our natural instinct to react to simple forms.

Monica Alcazar-Duarte (16th – 20th June 2020)
Monica Alcazar-Duarte is a British-Mexican multidisciplinary artist. Born in Mexico City and being a migrant, has deeply influenced her way of thinking and seeing. Sense of loss, insecurity, need for equality, internal chaos, transitioning between places, and the uneasiness that derives from it, play an important role in her work.
During her Instagram takeover Monica introduced her ongoing project ‘Second Nature’ about algorithms and bias.
Monica was a recipient of the UAL Mead Fellowship with her project ‘Forerunners’ in 2014.

James Rogers (19th – 23rd May 2020)
Sculptor and printmaker James Rogers’ work explores figuration in the realm of post digital, employing and hacking 3D printing methods to work with, iron, copper, bronze, and precious materials. James studied at Camberwell College of Arts and was awarded the UAL Mead Scholarship in 2015.

James Hopkirk (5th – 9th May 2020)
James Hopkirk is a freelance writer and photographer and introduced his ongoing project South London Stories, offering an important a view of London that is rarely seen and voices that are too often ignored. James was a recipient of the UAL Mead Fellowship in 2017.
